About the Herd of Hope Giving Society

The Herd of Hope Giving Society was created to build awareness of the research taking place at Roswell Park while raising funds to advance innovative ideas that have potential to make a significant difference in the fight against cancer.

Founded in 1898 as the nation’s first cancer research center, Roswell Park grew from the vision of highly respected surgeon Dr. Roswell Park. Park believed that the best care for cancer patients would arise when investigations in the lab and the clinic were combined to go hand in hand. We’ve offered our patients this multidisciplinary approach to cancer care for well over a century.
Today, Roswell Park is one of the leading cancer facilities in the country, treating more than 36,000 patients each year. Our research has led to historic breakthroughs in the way we understand, prevent and cure cancer. We are home to one of the largest early-phase clinical trials programs in New York State, offering the latest promising therapies for all types and stages of cancer. Our Center for Immunotherapy is a national leader in developing new treatments to help a patient’s immune system fight cancer.
U.S. News and World Report has recently ranked us in the top 3 percent of cancer care hospitals in the U.S. We are the only cancer hospital in New York State outside of NYC to reach the top 50 best cancer hospitals. Visionary leadership, outstanding faculty, committed staff and nursing excellence are just a few factors that have helped us attain this status.

A cure is out there, and support from Herd of Hope will bring us one step closer to a world without cancer.

Here are some examples of research efforts taking place at Roswell Park thanks to donor support:

Donor support enables clinical trials showing success of brain cancer vaccine developed at Roswell Park.

Genetic testing supported by donations has helped 6-year-old Kyle battle his “monster”.

CIMAvax Lung Cancer Treatment is all thanks to donor giving, Roswell Park is the only institution in the U.S. testing a groundbreaking lung cancer treatment originally developed in Cuba.

The Herd represents local companies coming together as one large group to fund promising research at Roswell Park.

Each participating company will receive an eye-catching blue buffalo to display at their place of business, each with the Roswell Park logo at its base. While displayed individually, these buffaloes are part of a larger Herd of Hope that represents our local business community’s collective efforts to come together with one common goal: finding a cure for cancer.
